Starts off with a series of well-executed military SF stories of people and powered armour. Not so much my thing, but I was promised a Lauren Beukes story and soldiered on. Each story is good in its own way, but the stand out gems include Beukes’ “The Green”, David D. Levine’s “Last days of the Kelly Gang” (Brunel meets Ned Kelly!), and Carrie Vaughan’s “Don Quixote” (Spanish Civil War!).

A solid collection – we would expect no less from JJA, with some brilliant stand-outs. My heart, however, was stolen by Daniel H Wilson’s “Helmet”. Read it to find out why.
